Angelica Kauffman Artist, Superwoman, Influencer

A significant number of the approximately 100 paintings, drawings and sculptures will be presented to the public for the first time. The presentation, which also includes prints and arts and crafts objects based on motifs used by Kauffmann, brings back to life a time when the word went around that “the whole world is Angelica-mad”.

Angelika Kauffmann, according to J. G. Herder the “possibly most cultivated woman in Europe”, was a liberal-minded neoclassical artist highly acclaimed throughout Europe. Admired for her artistic talents, her broad education and impeccable character, Kauffmann enjoyed a career that, for female artists at the time, was unprecedented. She made a name for herself with her remarkable early works, received artistic training in Italy and came to fame and fortune in London as a history painter and portraitist. Later, the astute and well networked businesswoman opened one of the most sought-after studios in Rome.

The exhibition is presented in collaboration with the Royal Academy of Arts, London.
