What is the world – and what is it made of? Is there something that connects everything? The exhibition looks at the fundamentals of nature and expands the classical theory of the four elements – earth, fire, water and air – by a higher dimension: the fifth element. Around 70 works from the Kemp Collection and the Kunstpalast Collection take on this timeless theme and focus on the interaction between nature, art and science. Get to know the artists’ unusual materials, physical processes and experimental techniques and discover diverse ideas and connections.

Was ist die Welt und woraus besteht sie? Existiert etwas das alles miteinander verbindet? Das Thema der Ausstellung widmet sich den Grundbausteinen der Natur und erweitert die klassische Theorie der vier Elemente – Erde, Feuer, Wasser und Luft – um eine übergeordnete Dimension: das fünfte Element. Rund 70 Werke aus der Sammlung Kemp und dem Bestand des Kunstpalasts greifen dieses Themenfeld auf und entwickeln es weiter immer mit dem Fokus auf der Wechselwirkung zwischen Natur, Kunst und Wissenschaft. Lernen Sie die ungewöhnlichen Materialien, physikalischen Prozesse und experimentellen Techniken der Künstler*innen kennen und entdecken Sie verschiedenste Ideen und Zusammenhänge.
