A special kind of encounter awaits when Severin von Eckardstein, one of the most important German pianists of his generation, meets the award-winning Schumann Quartet. Together, the five musicians will perform two magnificent piano quintets: Bartók’s voluptuous, glowing early work with its late Romantic timbres barely hints at the Hungarian composer’s later atonal tonal language, but already displays the intensity so typical of him. Dvořák’s second piano quintet, one of the Czech composer’s most popular works, captivates with its great melodic richness and lush sound.

Both works share the composers’ irrepressible desire to explore folk music and are interspersed with echoes of the traditional music of Eastern Europe, while masterfully combining it with musical modernity.
