Cate Lartey’s “Black Archive Germany” is a key work in the community exhibition. During the artist talk, the artist will discuss her practice, research and community with artist Dzifa Peters:
Whose history is preserved in official archives today, and whose is not?
Who holds the power over memory? Is this subject to change, and if so, how?
What are the characteristics of a diasporic community?
Photography emerges from a network of people, technology, institutions and history – and continues to exist in the gaze of the viewer. What does it mean that the photographs are now being seen by the Kunstpalast audience?
After the discussion, visitors will have the opportunity to ask questions.
Cate Lartey ist Künstlerin und Kuratorin aus Düsseldorf. Sie studierte Design an der Peter Behrens School of Arts in Düsseldorf und absolvierte ein postgraduales Studium an der Kunsthochschule für Medien in Köln mit dem Schwerpunkt Kunst- und Medienwissenschaften.
In ihrer künstlerischen und kuratorischen Praxis beschäftigt sie sich mit, Ästhetik, Archiven, visueller und materieller Kultur, mit dem Fokus auf der afrikanischen Diaspora und darüber hinaus.
Dzifa Peters ist eine deutsch-ghanaische bildende Künstlerin und promovierte Forscherin. In ihrer Arbeit verbindet sie künstlerische Praxis mit kulturwissenschaftlicher Forschung und beschäftigt sich mit Fragen von Diaspora, Erinnerung, Fotografie und dem Europa-Afrika-Verhältnis. Ihre Arbeiten bewegen sich zwischen Ausstellung, Archiv und Diskurs. Sie lebt und arbeitet in Lissabon.
