Hans-Peter Feldmann: Art, not art (2017)

Corinna Belz uses short episodes and stories to show how the artist Hans-Peter Feldmann unhinges our everyday lives. He questions the socially propagated sense with individual nonsense and vice versa. An entertaining and equally insightful documentary about the possibilities of art.

At the beginning, Tatjana Kimmel, Managing Director of the Friends of the Kunstpalast, talks to director Corinna Belz about the film.

There have always been women artists, but many of them have been forgotten. The exhibition presents 31 selected female artists who were active in Düsseldorf between 1819 and 1919. During this period women not admitted to the art academy. Nevertheless, some of them achieved prominence and fame during their lifetimes. Discover an important chapter of art history that has been overlooked for far too long on this guided tour. We will walk through the rooms together in a peaceful atmosphere and learn about the stories and artworks of the selected female artists. You can also share your own memories with us. We look forward to your stories and impressions and the journey together!

Marga Klinckenberg was a multi-talented woman. She was a graphic artist and sculptor as well as a musician and writer. She attended the Düsseldorf School of Arts and Crafts and took private lessons. In the exhibition “Women Artists! From Monjé to Münter”, the museum showcases her diverse ex-libris designs. Together we seek inspiration by the artist’s graphic world before we will get creative ourselves.

Was ist das Faszinierende an Autos? Welche Erinnerungen, welche Erwartungen verknüpfen sich mit ihnen? Ist es das Versprechen von Freiheit, Geschwindigkeit und Mobilität oder die Begeisterung für Technik und Innovation? Wir gehen diesen Fragen zeichnerisch nach. Proportionen, Linien und Materialien sind wichtige Details. Sie lassen wenig Spielraum und fordern mehr Präzision beim Abzeichnen. Freiraum bietet dann die Erfindung des eigenen Traumautos.

Elisabeth Jerichau-Baumann was a successful artist and dynamic businesswoman. She supported her family with her art and built up a network throughout Europe. In her memoirs, she recounts her experiences and her time in Warsaw and Düsseldorf. At the beginning of the event, actress Julia Dillmann will read passages from the memoirs, accompanied by violinist Klara Gronet, before visitors can get to know Jerichau-Baumann’s artworks in the exhibition “Women Artists! From Monjé to Münter” during the subsequent guided tour.

The event is a collaboration between the Kunstpalast Düsseldorf and the Polish Institute Düsseldorf as part of Polish Freedom Weekend 2025.

This day belongs to the female artists, feminists and everyone, who cherishes gender* equality.
