Please note: This course will be held in German!
In this holiday course, we will first gather lots of colourful ideas and inspiration from famous artists such as Monet, Cézanne and Matisse. Then, in the Palast Studio, we will conduct our own artistic experiments. We will paint with bright colours, using dots, strokes and surfaces. We will do exciting drawing exercises and collage strong, vibrant pictures – all using a wide variety of materials, just like the great masters. We will be surprised by the results and at the end we will put on a small exhibition for our families. We look forward to seeing you!

The Scharf Collection ranges from 19th and 20th century French art to contemporary international works. Highlights include pieces by Paul Cézanne, Claude Monet, Pierre Bonnard, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse and Katharina Grosse.
We draw on this diversity in our series of workshops for adults, taking inspiration from the exhibition. Once a month, we focus on a particular artistic technique or motif and get creative ourselves.

In July, the focus is on paper cutting, which artist Henri Matisse also called ‘drawing with scissors’. Inspired by this idea, we experiment with paper, paint and cutting in the workshop to create our own compositions.

In May, the focus will be on the theme of figure in space. Depicting the human body in the context of its surroundings opens up exciting perspectives and compositional possibilities. In the workshop, we will experiment with lines, volume and spatial effects.

Selfie or ruler’s portrait – depicting people has always been a fundamental skill for artists. What distinguishes the other person? How can one capture the personality? In this workshop we will observe the characteristic trademarks of our counterpart so that we will be able to capture them in a drawing. Each one of us takes turns to be the model: you portray another and also have someone portrait you.
Either beginner or advanced – everyone is welcome to join!
