What is the world and what is it made of? Is there something that connects everything? The exhibition looks at the fundamentals of nature and expands the classical theory of the four elements – earth, fire, water and air – by a higher dimension: the fifth element. Around 70 works from the Kemp Collection and the Kunstpalast Collection take on this timeless theme and focuss on the interaction between nature, art and science. Get to know the artists’ unusual materials, physical processes and experimental techniques and discover diverse ideas and connections.

There have always been women artists, but many of them have been forgotten. The exhibition presents 31 selected female artists who were active in Düsseldorf between 1819 and 1919. During this period women not admitted to the art academy. Nevertheless, some of them achieved prominence and fame during their lifetimes. Discover an important chapter of art history that has been overlooked for far too long on this guided tour and learn more about the stories and artworks of selected female artists.
In this guided tour for blind or visually impaired people, we take you on a journey through the exhibition with exciting stories and tactile experiences of selected objects.

Are you artists? In this exhibition you will see only artworks made by women. They lived and worked between 1819 and 1919. But this was rather difficult in that time: Women were not allowed to attend the Düsseldorf Art Academy. Just imagine not being able to follow your favourite profession. What would you do to follow your dreams? Together we will explore what moved the female artists and get to know them better.

Do you know this woman? Between 1819 and 1919, the 31 female artists from this exhibition worked in Düsseldorf. At that time, women were not admitted to study at the renowned art academy. Nevertheless, some of them achieved prominence and fame during their lifetimes but are forgotten today. The exhibition presents their works, fundamentally expanding our understanding of art in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Get to know various women who chose their own path courageously and goal orientated. Afterwards, you will have the chance to try out several painting techniques in our studio!
Meeting Place: Museum takes place once a month. Refugees and immigrants are welcome, the entrance fee is free.

Adeline Jaeger was always drawn to Düsseldorf, where she wanted to paint, study art and enjoy life. Pressured by her family, however, she married a pastor, had children and had little time left for art. In her memoirs, she looks back on this time with melancholy, but also with reflection. At the beginning of the event, passages from the memoir will be read passages before visitors take a guided tour of Jaeger’s artworks in the exhibition “Women Artists. From Monjé to Münter”.
