An elf has moved into the Kunstpalast. Go on a search for his apartment door. You will discover it on your tour through the exhibition ‚The Secret Power of Scents’. He has also brought three friends with him, who can be found in the glass collection.
In our ‚workshop’ there are small picture frames ready for you to paint in bright colors for the elf’s apartment. We look forward to seeing you and your ideas!

Hereinspaziert und Lauscher auf! Geschichten über Weihnachten und den Wichtel liest Katharina Martini bei uns im Raum Belvedere vor. Kuschelt Euch in die Sitzsäcke und hört in Ruhe zu. Wer will kann dann auch auf die Suche nach der Wohnung des Wichtels gehen. Denn auch bei uns ist vor kurzem eine kleine Wichteltür in der Ausstellung entdeckt worden.

Der Grumpy Guide weiß alles und vor allem weiß er es besser als die Besucher*innen und das lässt er sie auch gerne spüren. Er ist genervt, gelangweilt und überheblich.
Laut eigener Aussage ist Joseph Langelinck Nachfahr eines ehemaligen Direktors der Düsseldorfer Gemäldegalerie. Sein Groll gilt manchen Künstler*innen und den Werken, die unter seiner rechtmäßigen Führung niemals einen Weg in die Sammlung gefunden hätten, vor allem aber den Besucher*innen und deren Ahnungslosigkeit.
Langelinck arbeitete als Kunstkritiker in Berlin, hielt es dort aber nicht lange aus, da die Stadt ihm einfach zu freundlich war. Zurück in seiner Heimat Düsseldorf versuchte er sich in verschiedenen Brauhäusern als Köbes, doch die sonnigen Gemüter der Kollegen trieben ihn an den Rand der Verzweiflung. Und so kam er an den Kunstpalast, um als Museumsguide den Besucher*innen sein geballtes Wissen um die Ohren zu hauen.
Er führt die Gruppe durch die Sammlung wie es ihm gerade passt, mal im Schnelldurchlauf durch mehrere Jahrhunderte und mal kann er sich minutenlang in das kleinste Detail eines Kunstwerkes vertiefen. Zwischendurch kann es auch zu einer überraschenden Wissensabfrage kommen – nehmen Sie sich in Acht vor dem Grumpy Guide!

ART EXHIBITION NRW DÜSSELDORF

In 2026, NRW-Forum, Kunstpalast, and Ehrenhof will once again host Germany’s largest exhibition organised by artists for artists. Outdoor sculptures will create a visual link between the two well-known art institutions in Düsseldorf.

Since 1902, the Verein zur Veranstaltung von Kunstausstellungen e.V. (Association for the Organisation of Art Exhibitions) has provided a unique platform for the exchange of ideas between artists, art enthusiasts and art buyers.
Visitors have the opportunity to purchase works directly on site, bypassing the gallery. The selection of participating artists is made each year by a rotating jury from a pool of numerous applications. Featured works include those in painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, installation and video.

Die KLEINE
April, 30.- June, 7. 2026DIE KLEINE is the closing exhibition of the art competition for primary schools, which will be held for the seventh time in 2026. Open to all primary schools in Düsseldorf and the surrounding region, the competition aims to unleash the creativity of young schoolchildren and give them the opportunity to experience the museum as an enriching extracurricular learning space.

Children can work in any medium, be it painting, collage, objects, photography or film. All submitted artworks will be on view in the closing exhibition.

1926 wurde in den Gebäuden des Ehrenhofes und darüber hinaus die Messe für Gesundheitspflege, soziale Fürsorge und Leibesübungen veranstaltet, die rund 7,5 Millionen Besucher*innen anzog. Sport war eines der zentralen Themen, das wir 100 Jahre später aufgreifen und in die heutige Zeit übertragen. Ob Ringe, Rudergerät, Tischtennisplatte oder Balanceboard – verschiedenstes Sportequipment steht im Sammlungsrundgang bereit. Die Besucher*innen können die Geräte nutzen und so auf eine ganz neue Weise die Ausstellung erleben und in den Dialog mit der Kunst treten.

10. September 2026 bis 7. Februar 2027Sie fragte nicht um Erlaubnis, sondern nahm sich, was Männer selbstverständlich besaßen: Einfluss und Macht, nicht nur in der Kunst, auch in der Öffentlichkeit. So unterlief Niki de Saint Phalle (1930–2002) seit ihren ersten Aktionen gesellschaftliche Erwartungen und sprengte Grenzen.
In einer groß angelegten Ausstellung rückt der Kunstpalast nun Ihre künstlerische Selbstbehauptung inmitten einer männlich dominierten Kunstszene in den Mittelpunkt.

Durch vier Jahrzehnte hindurch wird ihr Kampf gegen Strukturen beleuchtet, die die Selbstbestimmung von Frauen verhindern, insbesondere die über ihren eigenen Körper.
Gezeigt werden ihre berühmten Schießbilder, Frauenfiguren, Happenings und Filme sowie Modelle von Großplastiken im Landschaftsraum. Ihr künstlerisches Umfeld und Zusammenarbeiten mit Jean Tinguely oder Robert Rauschenberg werden ebenso betrachtet wie ihr Zeitgenossinnen gegenüber gestellt werden, darunter Yayoi Kusama, Dorothy Iannone und Alina Szapocznikow.
Niki de Saint Phalles gesellschaftliche Sprengkraft und ihre gleichzeitige Sehnsucht nach Harmonisierung ließ ein ambivalentes Werk entstehen, das die französisch-amerikanische Künstlerin schon zu Lebzeiten berühmt machte und das bis heute weiter an Aktualität gewinnt.

A collection of Düsseldorf florists will be interpreting the artworks from the collection tour. They will complement them with their own ephemeral sculpture – a creative flower arrangement. The resulting new poetic spaces invite visitors to view nature in a different context and to take a surprising new look at art.
Numerous renowned florists responded to the Kunstpalast’s call to engage with the museum’s collection and create floral interpretations of individual works. They had a completely free hand in selecting the works and designing the corresponding floral arrangements.
Following its great success in 2024, the exhibition format is now being held for the third time.

DIE KLEINE (THE LITTLE ONE) is the final exhibition of the art competition for primary schools, which has been taking place since 2020. The competition is aimed at all elementary school in Düsseldorf and the surrounding area and aims to give young pupils the opportunity to get creative and experience the museum as an extracurricular place of learning.
The children are free to design their works of art and choose the medium – anything is possible, from pictures to collages, objects or photos to films. All submitted works will be presented in the final exhibition.
DIE KLEINE is under the patronage of Mayor Dr. Stephan Keller.
About DIE KLEINE
The DIE KLEINE art competition will take place for the seventh time in 2026, this time under the motto: ‘Kunstpalast Kunterbunt!’ (Colourful Art Palace!).
