The Scharf Collection ranges from 19th and 20th century French art to contemporary international works. Highlights include pieces by Paul Cézanne, Claude Monet, Pierre Bonnard, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse and Katharina Grosse.
We draw on this diversity in our series of workshops for adults, taking inspiration from the exhibition. Once a month, we focus on a particular artistic technique or motif and get creative ourselves.
In July, the focus is on paper cutting, which artist Henri Matisse also called ‘drawing with scissors’. Inspired by this idea, we experiment with paper, paint and cutting in the workshop to create our own compositions.

In May, the focus will be on the theme of figure in space. Depicting the human body in the context of its surroundings opens up exciting perspectives and compositional possibilities. In the workshop, we will experiment with lines, volume and spatial effects.

In April, the focus is on portraits. Whether commissioned or a token of friendship, portraits have been an expression of personality and identity for centuries.
We explore gaze, expression and proportions and create our own versions.

In March, the focus is on landscapes. Depictions of nature are a central motif in art history and are also well represented in the exhibition. In the workshop, we explore different methods of capturing our own designs on paper or canvas.
