This guided tour offers insights into one of Germany’s most important private collections. Many of the works on display have never been shown to the public before. Enjoy a selection of around 180 works of French art from the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as contemporary international art. These include outstanding paintings by Paul Cézanne, Claude Monet, Pierre Bonnard, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse and Katharina Grosse.

An afternoon full of inspiring encounters. This time, we will take a joint look at the history of the Kunstpalast. When were the buildings in the Ehrenhof constructed? How did the diversity of the collection come about? In this special series, the focus is not only on art-historical background, but also on shared exchange and personal impressions. In dialogue with the group, selected artworks and artists will be presented.

After the guided tour, we invite you to continue the conversations in a relaxed atmosphere over coffee and cake.

Typical motifs in still lifes are flowers, fruits, and vessels, but also everyday objects that are artfully arranged and often have symbolic meaning. The appeal of these works of art lies above all in slowing down the gaze and rediscovering the beauty of everyday life. What do the pictures tell us about their time, about human values, and about transience? In the Kunstpalast collection, we discover works from different centuries.

In addition to the art-historical background, this special series focuses on mutual exchange and personal impressions. Sometimes all it takes is a picture to start a conversation or bring back memories. Our experienced art educators guide you through the collection exhibition and introduce individual works of art or artists in dialogue with the group.

After the tour, we cordially invite you to continue the conversation in a cozy atmosphere over coffee and cake.

“Your first stroke counts more than perfection” – under this motto, artist Susi Bumms invites you on a creative journey that puts the joy of experimenting front and center. With paper and pen, we explore ideas that arise both in our minds and around us. We try, experiment, and let spontaneous ideas guide us – without pressure, without right or wrong. Sketching, conceptual thinking, visual ideas: everything is allowed, everything counts.

This workshop is an invitation to explore your own creative expression, enjoy the act of making, and perhaps take home a truly personal piece. Just start, draw, create – and let yourself be surprised!

The artist, a freelance illustrator based in Cologne after studying in the arts, combines conceptual approaches with keen observation, humor, and surprising perspectives. Her work plays with design and language, depicting objects with character, situations with a twist, and people with “living fingers.”

Die Neue Philharmonie Hamburg wurde 2001 von freischaffenden Berufsmusikern aus aller Welt gegründet. Seitdem hat sich das Orchester einen führenden Platz in der norddeutschen Musiklandschaft erarbeitet und behauptet. Es versteht sich als ein dynamisches Orchester, das von kleineren Besetzungen für Kammerorchester bis hin zu einem großen Symphonieorchester mit Chor ausbaubar ist. Das Herzstück blieb jedoch stets das Kammerorchester, das seit seiner Gründung kaum verändert wurde und sehr gut aufeinander eingespielt ist.
 
Mit zahlreichen Gastauftritten in Spanien, Frankreich, Italien und Südkorea hat es sich einen großen Freundeskreis bei den Zuhörern erworben. Die musikalische Leitung übernimmt der Konzertmeister des Orchesters, Tigran Mikaelyan.

The Grumpy Guide knows everything – and, above all, he knows it better than the visitors, which he is more than happy to make them feel. He is irritable, bored and arrogantly superior.
By his own account, Joseph Langelinck is a descendant of a former director of the Düsseldorf gallery of paintings. He harbours a particular resentment towards certain artists and works that would never have found their way into the collection under his rightful leadership – but above all towards the visitors and their woeful ignorance.

For the seventh time, the Kunstpalast is presenting DIE KLEINE, an exhibition of works by Düsseldorf elementary school students in grades 1 through 4. Under the theme “Kunstpalast Kunterbunt!”, the young participants present a diverse mix of paintings, collages, sculptures, installations, and videos. The exhibition highlights the openness and creativity with which children express themselves artistically.

DIE KLEINE is not just a competition, but a space for engaging with art and the museum. The children’s perspectives bring fresh insights to the Kunstpalast and broaden our understanding of what an exhibition can be. The public is also invited to participate: visitors can vote for their favorite artwork on-site. In addition to the audience award, a jury prize will be awarded.

Both awards are accompanied by a class field trip. A catalog featuring all the works on display will be published for the exhibition and distributed to the participating children. Admission is free.
