The New Kunstpalast

from 21 November 2023

Having been closed for extensive reconstruction work for three years, the Kunstpalast in Düsseldorf is reopening its doors for the new presentation of its art collection. Of the approximately 130,000 objects held by the museum spanning all epochs and genres, around 800 works will be on show.

Alongside the highlights and big names included in the collection, the chronological exhibition route also presents less well known works, some of which have never been shown to the public before. Moreover, hidden rooms, newly created and designed for children – the Rhino Palast – invites young visitors to capture the museum for themselves.

“More so than ever we want the museum to be a place where all people – regardless of their age and art historical education – feel comfortable and can discover new things,” Felix Krämer, Director General of the Kunstpalast, outlines his vision of the museum. “We are delighted to welcome visitors who have never set foot in our museum as well as regular visitors already familiar with our collection,” says Krämer, for whom the easy accessibility of his museum has always been among the objectives closest to his heart.

The Kunstpalast seeks to inspire its audience beyond the art canon and to open up new, unusual perspectives by bringing together artistic positions from all collection areas. A Kunstpalast app, developed in collaboration with the museum’s digital partner ERGO, will add a digital dimension to the museum visit. Exhibition rooms equipped to modern standards, an open studio of the museum’s education department and a welcoming courtyard with new gastronomic facilities all contribute to making the new Kunstpalast a venue that invites visitors to linger and return – a place akin to the city’s living room.

From 21 November 2023 onwards, all art lovers, those interested in culture and all who are simply curious are invited to see for themselves and – in the first week at no cost – explore the Kunstpalast.
